PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmitter in which circuit configuration can be simplified and the effect of beat noise can be reduced. SOLUTION: A signal processing circuit 13 generates a signal where an envelope at a high level (or an envelope at a low level) has a similar form to the waveform of a transmission signal and an envelope at a low level (or an envelope at a high level) has a constant level on the basis of the transmission signal received from a signal source 11 and a carrier received from a carrier generating circuit 12. A light source 14 applies light intensity modulation to the signal and provides the output of the result to an optical fiber 4.
