PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ion generating device capable of effectively preventing accumulation of opposite polarity charge on an ion generating electrode, and continuously and stably continuing to generate ions. SOLUTION: The ion generating device 1 is so structured that first polarity ions are generated by making either of positive and negative polarities as a first polarity and the other as a second polarity, and applying a high voltage to an ion generating electrode 27 so that the voltage of the first polarity becomes dominant. A polarity inverting mechanism 80 for inverting a high voltage applied polarity for a certain time is provided so as to neutralize charge of the second polarity accumulated on the ion generating electrode 27 during generation of ions of the first polarity.
