PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide new (4-oxocyclohexyl)-(4-hydroxyphenyl)alkanes improved in solubility to solvents or having low melting point and useful as a raw material for medicines and industrial chemicals, a polymerization initiator, a heat resistance improving agent, an intermediate for antioxidant or a raw material for electronic materials such as liquid crystal compounds. SOLUTION: The (4-oxocyclohexyl)-(4-hydroxyphenyl)alkanes are represented by general formula (I) (wherein R1 represents hydrogen or methyl group; R2 represents a 1-8C alkyl group when R1 is hydrogen or a 2-8C alkyl group when R1 is methyl group). The compounds are produced by selectively hydrogenating bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)alkanes in the presence of a palladium catalyst.
