PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a crosslinkable (meth)acrylamide copolymer solution slightly emitting fumes during heat-curing and having excellent low-temperature curability and water miscibility. SOLUTION: This method for producing the crosslinkable (meth)acrylamide copolymer solution is characterized as follows. A monomer mixture composed of (a1) 15-99.8 wt.% of (meth)acrylamide having N-methylol group or an N- alkoxyalkyl group, (a2) 0.1-40 wt.% of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer having an acidic group and (a3) 0-65 wt.% of other ethylenically unsaturated monomers is radically polymerized in the presence of (c) an azo polymerization initiator and (d) a chain transfer agent composed of hypophosphorous acid or its salt in (b) an aqueous medium.
