PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a branch metric calculation device and its calculation method that use no ROM table. SOLUTION: The branch metric calculation device is provided with a first branch metric calculation circuit that calculates a first branch metric on the basis of multi-value data, a second branch metric calculation circuit that applies 45-degree rotation processing clockwise to the multi-value data and calculates a second branch metric on the basis of the obtained data, a third branch metric calculation circuit that applies 45-degree rotation processing counter clockwise to the multi-value data and calculates a third branch metric on the basis of the obtained data, and a fourth branch metric calculation circuit that applies 45-degree rotation processing clockwise to the multi-value data and calculates a fourth branch metric on the basis of the obtained data. |
