Device for treatment of pathological regions of the human body with shock waves whereby a section imaging instrument, such as a computer tomography or magnetic resonance tomography instrument is used to generate a sectional image of the pathological region of interest. A locating arrangement is then used to mark the skin surface, based on the section images and a shock wave generator is positioned in the corresponding location and focussed on the area of interest. An Independent claim is made for a method for treating a patient using shock wave therapy, whereby the location of tissue to be treated is first precisely located using a sectional imaging technique, such as CT or NMR.
