TERMINATION OF ITERATIVE DECODING

A method for terminating iterative decoding. Soft-decision bits and extrinsic information are utilised to determine the convergence of the iterative decoding process. If the extrinsic information is lower than a first predetermined threshold and the soft-decision bits are lower than a second predetermined threshold, a counter is incremented. If the counter is lower than a third predetermined threshold at the end of an iteration, the iterative decoding process is terminated. Otherwise, the counter is reset and a further iteration is commenced.
