The concrete box is sound insulated and may be installed in the cellar, in the open just outside the house or buried in the ground. It contains a diesel engine driving a heat pump with a heat exchanger (d) extracting heat from the exhaust gases. The exhaust gas passes into a large chamber a which acts as a damper. There is a burn-off device (16) at the top. The exhaust gases leave via a soot filter (b) and an oxidation catalytic converter (c) and then pass through the heat exchanger.
