A toner mark is produced on a photoconductor drum (12) as an intermediate carrier by a characater generator (10). A reflection sensor (16) determines color density for a colored toner mark (14) and uses its signal to adjust toner concentration in a developer station. Multiple LEDs transmit light onto the surface of the photoconductor drum used to generate latent image structures in the form of a charge image/pattern. An Independent claim is also included for a device for controlling a printing process in a printer or copier.
