Production of prosthetic molded parts (10b) used in dentistry comprises producing a model of a molded part using a molding technique, and coating the model with a metal layer (12, 20) in at least one coating step to produce on removal of the model, a molding which is provided with a cover (18) of ceramic or plastic. At least one metal layer (12) is removed after production of the cover. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) an alternative process; and (ii) a prosthetic molded part produced by the above process. Preferred Features: At least one further layer is galvanically deposited using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) or physical vapor deposition (PVD). The cover is applied onto a noble metal-containing layer, preferably a gold-containing layer, or a ceramic layer, preferably a titanium nitride layer.
