Identifying macrocyclic polyketides (I) by exposing (I), or a mixture containing them, to a biosensor, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) host cell (A) that contains a reporter gene (RG) under transcriptional control of a promoter that is regulatable by (I); (2) use of (A) for identifying (I); and (3) DNA construct containing an RG under transcriptional control of a promoter that is regulatable by (I).
