PURPOSE: A reducing method of a digital image and a device thereof are provided to perform an area sampling process by a predetermined calculation according to a reducing rate, and to use a lookup table as carrying out a parallel process synchronized with a pixel data output synchronous clock, thereby improving picture quality of a reduced image and enabling a real-time processing. CONSTITUTION: A reducing process memory(103) stores a processing number and a read address necessary for reducing pixel data in accordance with a reducing rate calculated in reference to a lookup table. The first pixel data storage memory(106) and the second pixel data storage memory(107) alternatively perform writing/reading operations, and write pixel data corresponding to a portion for 1 line if a scan operation is started for a manuscript document to be reduced, then read data corresponding to the read address if the writing operation is completed. An area sampling processor(109) performs an area sampling process by using a predetermined calculation with regards to the data outputted from the memories(106,107).
