A notch (28) is formed in the opening edge (15a) of a cavity (15) at the top (4a) of a piston (14) with both ends meeting some valve recesses (24,27) formed around the cavity. The projections (29,30) formed at the meeting edges of the notch and valve recesses, are set among the periphery side of the piston rather than the opening edge of the cavity. The interference between the piston and system valves of the engine, is avoided by the valve recesses. The notch avoids interference with a glow plug while the cavity forms a combustion chamber (16). The valve recesses are connected to the combustion chamber through the opening edge of the cavity.
