<p>A gift card system comprising a gift card (1) created from the combination of a greeting card and a debit or credit card (10) to form a single unit and methods of doing business with said gift card (1) comprising some or all of: issuing of gift cards (1) by a card issuing organisation (card issuer); sale or gift cards (1) with pre-paid values to customers who give them as gifts to recipients; recording of data relating to sold cards (1) and their pre-paid values in a computer database; deposit of pre-payment amounts by card issuer in a suitable bank account; tendering, physically, electronically or telephonically by recipients of gift cards (1) to merchants in payment for purchase of goods or services; validation of purchase transactions by merchants; payment to merchants by their bankers (card acquirers) of the value of purchase transactions; reimbursement of card acquirers by card issuer through its bankers.</p> |
