The bicycle has a steering front wheel (9) and a driven rear wheel (1). A pair of tread levers (19) is provided, positioned next to one another parallel to the longitudinal axis of the bicycle. The drive force for the driven wheel is provided by alternate operation of the tread levers and an intermediate drive chain mechanism (29).
