The radiator has a discharge vessel with a base plate (4), a cover plate and a frame (8,9) connecting them for accommodating a discharge medium in a discharge chamber. A number of supporting elements (2,15) in the frame connect the cover plate and base plate. The method involves using only some of a number of supporting elements to hold up the cover plate and the remaining supporting elements do not soften during the filling step.
