The method involves measuring (22,34) the quantity of cooling gas flowing from a source (10) into a feed line in a defined first period at the source end of the feed line and comparing with a first threshold value, measuring a second quantity at the machine end of the line in the same period, comparing the difference between the quantities with a second threshold and evaluating to detect leaks in the line or machine.
