A passage on the mouthpiece (1b) stands open to the mouth when in use and the mouthpiece can be pulled by a grip (2) via an interposed compression spring (3). The lip expander is in bar shape with a center bar (1) as mouthpiece and enclosed at one end by the encircling spring (3).The grip is in sleeve shape and partly encloses the spring whose free end is fixed in the sleeve. Spring, center bar and grip sleeve are all exchangeable to vary size and pulling forces as part of a staged training program and the center bar should be made of skin-compatible material. When used as lip trainer, weights are slung on the bar now serving as hanger simply for lip strength training.
