A single or multilayer product containing alpha -olefin/vinyl alcohol copolymer and at least one alpha -olefin/vinyl acetate copolymerizate, where the alpha -olefin/vinyl acetate copolymerizate contains 35-99.99 wt.% vinyl acetate repeating units is new. Independent claims are included for: (1) a packing material; (2) a single layer product is prepared by mixing the copolymerizate with conventional components; (3) preparation of a multilayer product by coextrusion or lamination; and (4) a multilayer product containing at least one layer (A) and at least one layer (B) where A is a thermoplastic polymer and (B) comprises an alpha -olefin/vinyl alcohol copolymer and an alpha -olefin/vinyl acetate copolymer of vinyl acetate content 35-95 wt.%.
