A fuel-injection pump in which adjustment of the commencement of fuel injection is achieved with the aid of an adjusting device 32, 36, which is actuated by a fuel pressure in the pump inner chamber 12 controlled in dependence upon operating parameters. This pressure is controlled, by a first pressure control device 49 comprising a pressure control valve 39 and a temperature controlled valve 52 in such a way that when the internal combustion engine is cold there is an advancement in the commencement of fuel injection. The control pressure is additionally influenced in dependence upon load by a second pressure control device 50 in such a way that in the case of a warm internal combustion engine a relative postponement of the commencement of fuel injection can be achieved. Since this does not lead to the desired results in all operating regions, the effect of this second pressure control device is switched off when the internal combustion engine is started from cold, and is switched on when the engine is warm. <IMAGE>
