Method and apparatus for automatically re-establishing a call in a communication system

The present invention provides a method and Mobile Switching Center (MSC) for automatically re-establishing a call in a communication system. A call is established on a call path in a communication system between a mobile unit and a network element. A processor, such as a Mobile Switching Center (MSC), determines that the mobile unit has disconnected from the call. The processor automatically re-establishes the call on the call path if it was determined that the mobile unit disconnected from the call. The re-establishment of the call preferably occurs on the call path between the MSC and the network element, and occurs without input from the mobile unit.
