Gears are crowned in a hobbing machine by exchanging the hobbing head for a shaving head, and tilting the shaving tool during finishing. The machine comprises a circular work-table 11, Figs. 1 and 2, clamped by a device 12, a column 15 movable radially with respect to work 13, and a tool carriage 17 movable on the column by a spindle 18. A hobbing head or a shaving head can be mounted on carriage 17, and the shavin head com rises a carriage 21, Fig. 3, movable on guides 22 by a spindle 23. A base-plate 27, Fig. 5, pivoted at 28 on carriage 17, has bearings 29, 30, which by means of spindles 31, 32, and eccentric bushes 33, 34, support a guide plate 35, which is provided with the guides 22. A tool support 36 is pivoted on carriage 21 at 37, and carries the shaving wheel 24 mounted on an eccentric bush 40 carried by a spindle 39. Bush 34 is driven by an electric or hydraulic motor through a worm 43, Fig. 6, and worm-wheel segment 42a to tilt guide plate 35. The latter may be tilted by a cam which replaces bushes 31, 33, or a wedge 46, Fig. 8, may cause the tilting. The shaving tool may be tilted at various angles α, α, Fig. 4, relative to work 13, in a continuous manner controlled from the drive to spindle 23, or the tool may be locked in the respective positions 25a, 25, 25b during each pass. Specification 761,294 is referred to. |
