PURPOSE: A diagnosis system and a method for an FCO( fuel consumption output) line are provided to prevent a disorder for a driver by informing the diagnosis of the fuel consumption output and the transmission of information to a trip computer. CONSTITUTION: A diagnosis system comprises a trip computer(50), an FCO( fuel consumption output) signal line(41), an engine control unit(40), and a warning device. The trip computer connects with the diagnosis system through the FCO signal line and the fuel consumption rate detected in a fuel tank is transmitted to the trip computer. The engine control unit has an Rx terminal(42) to monitor the voltage of the fuel consumption signal line. The warning device informs the integrated circuit trouble of the signal line when the fuel consumption is over the criticality value. A diagnosis flow for a fuel consumption output line comprises setting an initial value, deciding an ignition key as on, deciding an engine starting, inputting a fuel level signal of the engine control unit, integrating the fuel consumption rate in the engine control unit, deciding an engine stop, receiving the input of the fuel level signal in the engine control unit, calculating the difference between the fuel consumption rate by the fuel consumption output and the fuel consumption rate by the input of the fuel level signal, comparing the calculated value and a threshold value and turning on the warning light when the calculated value is larger.
