PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for laser beam machining for obtaining excellent shape and positioning accuracy of hole maching. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a laser oscillator 1 which radiates a laser beam and an optical system which leads the laser beam onto a work, and the optical system is composed of a telescope composed of a plurality of lenses 7 and an acoustooptic transducing element 2 arranged at the focal point of the plurality of lenses. The influence of the thermal lens effect of the acoustooptic transducing element 2 on the laser beam is decreased and the variation in the quality of the laser beam is also decreased to the utmost.
