The forming of patterned relief on a flexible surface comprises location of the leather or e.g. cloth being patterned, in a mould providing the patterning. The patterning hot melt is then poured on to the leather which contains holes permitting hot coating of its reverse side also by the melt. EMBODIMENT - The reverse coating enhances the overall bond of the relief pattern.
