PURPOSE: Provided is a skin care composition that has many uses, including a cleansing facial mask. The composition may be a paste, lotion, gel, or cream that is applied to the skin. Upon drying, the composition changes color, indicating that it is time to be rinsed off. CONSTITUTION: A composition for forming a cosmetic mask comprises at least one colorant; and silica, wherein, when the composition is combined with water, the amount of the colorant and the silica is effective to provide a color change upon drying. It comprises as a vehicle water, a water miscible liquid or a combination thereof.
