Bufatrienolide glycol ethers with cardioactivity and - improved resorption

DELTA 4,20,22-Bufatrienolides substd. in the 3-posn. by a residue R(OCH2CH2)nO- (where n is 1 or 2 and R is H or CH3) show surprisingly strong cardioactivity (heart rate is decreased about twice as strongly as by known cpds.) with improved resorption. They are prepd. by reacting R(OCH2CH2)nOH with 3-hydroxy-DELTA 4,20,22-bufatrienolides in the presence of an acid. Pure alpha- and beta-isomers of the product may be separated from each other by chromatography on silica gel.
