PURPOSE: To provide a matrix type picture display device capable of displaying a picture without unevenness and adapting an outward vertical resolution of a picture display device to a video source when a video signal having a vertical resolution lower than the physical maximum vertical resolution of a matrix type picture display device. CONSTITUTION: A scanning signal line driving circuit sequentially performs simultaneous active driving of two scanning lines adjacent to each other in the vertical direction adopting their outputs GO 12, GO 34, GO 56,... as one set, respectively. When actively driving the outputs, pixels are pre-charged before the pixels are duly written. When the pixel of the GO 12 is duly written, the pixel of the GO 56 next to the GO 12 on the vertical following line side to be duly written at potential of the same polarity is also pre-charged at the same time.
