PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing a flat CRT is provided to prevent the generation of corrugation of a tension mask by arranging a compression position of a distal end of a main frame on a space between an extension from a distal end of a welding portion of a sub-frame and a perpendicular of the extension from a distal end of the sub-frame. CONSTITUTION: A tension-type mask assembly comprises a main frame(7) on which a mask is welded and a sub-frame for supporting the main frame(7). In case that a position of a compressed load is moved to a lower of the main frame(7), the generation of corrugation of a tension mask is reduced. Therefore, it is preferable that the main frame(7) is compressed between A and B, wherein A is an extension from distal ends of an inner surface of welding portion between the main frame(7) and the sub-frame and B is a perpendicular of the extension from a distal end of non-effective surface of the tension mask.
