PURPOSE: A conditional access system of a digital satellite broadcasting receiver is provided to construct the conditional access system separately from a common interface module and a free-to-air module to upgrade the common interface module at a low cost. CONSTITUTION: A conditional access system of a digital satellite broadcasting receiver includes an FTA module(300), a CI module(400) and a connection unit(500). The FTA module receives and processes broadcasting stream signals. The CI module descrambles scrambled broadcasting stream signals. The connection unit is connected to the FTA module and CI module, being detachable from the modules. The CI module generates a connection signal, and the FTA module selectively controls the operation of descrambling the scrambled broadcasting stream signal according to the connection signal generated by the CI module.
