PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the productivity by performing airtight joining of a vacuum body by making it a simple method. SOLUTION: The airtight joining member 4 which is formed by lining a rubber-like elastic body 5 of which the side facing vacuum layer side is formed approximately in a plane, with a gas impermeable material 8 and providing the back with a recess 7 and is used by fitting a rigid shape holding material 6 into the recess 7 and the airtight joining method which comprises holding the joining member 4 between airtight materials 2 facing each of the vacuum body. When the vacuum body turns large and the shape holding of the entire part of the airtight joining member by the shape holding material 6 is not possible, the back of the rubber-like elastic body 10 is provided with the recess 7 matched with the fitting shape of the shape holding material and the shape holding material 6 may be formed to an approximately Tee shape in section which makes the material hardly bendable in the longitudinal and transverse directions.
