<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an active driving system planar display device of an impulse type display suitable for moving picture display with a simple configuration. SOLUTION: The device has a plurality of signal lines and a plurality of scanning lines which are arranged and mutually crossed with each other, switching elements provided at the crossing points of the signal and the scanning lines, electric charge holding means connected to the elements and optical responding means which indicate optical response corresponding to the signal levels held by the electric charge holding means. In the matrix type planar display device, the switching elements are turned on by applying signals to the scanning lines and the signals on the signal lines are written onto the electric charge holding means. The time constant defined by the capacitive components of the electric charge holding means and the resistive components that discharge the electric charges of the electric charge holding means is set to equal to or less than one field interval.</p> |
