PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkali cell enabled to restrain the increase of separator film resistance at discharge. SOLUTION: The alkali cell 1 comprises a positive electrode 3, a negative electrode 5, and a separator 4. The separator 4 has a structure of superposing nonwoven fabrics, and a highly water absorbing polymer is laid between the nonwoven fabrics. The highly water absorbing polymer is composed of crosslinking polyacrilic acid or crosslinked polyacrylate salt, and it is in a state of powder or sheet. The sum of alkali electrolyte liquid absorption volume of the highly water absorbing polymer ranges between 0.4 g and 1.13 g.
