PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device which represent color information for natural CG reproducing with a small-sized information. SOLUTION: The method for adding color information, which is a side view of this invention, adds color information to a three-dimensional shape model of an object and is provided with a step for acquiring the three-dimensional shape model where the surface shape of the object is constituted of a set of planes and a step for estimating color information of the planes, and the estimating step is provided with a step for regularly arranging a plurality of color points on the planes and a step where color information of the color points are calculated as prescribed constants of a prescribed function based on the picture data obtained by photographing the object illuminated by a light source and information related to photographing of the picture data and the calculated prescribed constants are stored as a two-dimensional array corresponding to the arrangement of the color points.
