PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology with which the personality of a caller can be expressed by transmitting arbitrary melody data or image data from the caller to a callee and reproducing these data at arbitrary timing. SOLUTION: In a data transmitting/reproducing system 10 provided with a plurality of portable telephones 16 and a center server 12, in the center server 12, the melody data or image data for transmission are stored for each portable telephone 16 and the portable telephone 16 is equipped with an LCD 46 for displaying the selection picture of data for transmission and the selection picture of an incoming side portable telephone, a ten key 44 for selecting the specified data for transmission and incoming side portable telephone on respective selection pictures, a means for starting a previously stored application program by transmitting a control signal to a selected incoming side portable telephone 16b, a means for requesting the transmission of the selected data for transmission through the ten key 44 to the incoming side portable telephone 16b to the center server 12, a means for performing call origination to the incoming side portable telephone 16b, and a means for reproducing the data for transmission at prescribed timing when these data are transmitted from the center server 12.
