PURPOSE: A plasma discharge tube is provided to increase the density and efficiency of discharge by uniformly discharging plasma in a discharge tube. CONSTITUTION: A discharge tube(10) is filled with an inert gas(G). Mercury is inserted into the discharge tube(10). The discharge tube(10) is comprised of a metallic filament(F), an electrode(E) coupled to the metallic filament(F), and an encapsulated glass tube communicating the electrode(E) with the outside. The electrode(E) is electrically connected to a voltage applying unit through a socket(11). A metallic tube(12) is electrically connected to the voltage applying unit and provided on a location spaced from a circumference of the discharge tube(10) about 1.5 mm to 2 mm. Once the voltage applying unit applies a voltage of 2000-3000 V(volt) to the electrode(E), electrons are emitted from the filament(F) connected to the electrode(E) to the inner of the discharge tube(10). Thereafter, mercury is ionized by reacting on the electrons to produce mercury ion. The mercury ion collides with the inert gas to generate plasma energy.
