PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a fuel cell having high performance by accurately and simply evaluating the performance of the fuel cell. SOLUTION: Iron is reduced by carrying platinum as one of noble metals and iron as one of base metals on carbon having a large specific surface, and by heating the iron to a reducible temperature. A platinum-iron alloy based electrode catalyst thus obtained has a high function as a catalyst, and the IR correction voltage of a fuel cell manufactured by using it is high. This kind of electrode catalyst is a new catalyst and can be specified by numerical values, such as the adsorption quantity of carbon monoxide which is 14 Ncc or more per 1 gram of platinum, the ratio of the number of Pt atoms to the number of Fe atoms by EDX analysis which is 0.14 or more, or the ratio of the number of coupling of both atoms by EXAFS analysis which is 0.1 or more. The electrode catalyst can be evaluated with these numerical values, and the fuel cell having high performance can be manufactured by manufacturing by using the evaluation result. |
