PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent illegal software installation that surpasses the number of installing times acknowledged by a software supplier. SOLUTION: In using a medium distributed by the supplier to install software in a user's computer, the number of software installable times is recorded in a user unaccessible area of an exchangeable recording medium, and when the software is installed, an installation performance counter value that updates what number installation is recorded in the user unaccessible area of the exchangeable recording medium. The counter value is compared with the number of installable times each time the software is installed to prevent the software from being installed surpassing the number of installable times.
