PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce color aliasing artifacts. SOLUTION: There is provided a system and method for processing a demosaiced image using a CAAR(Color Aliasing Artifact Reduction) algorithm. The algorithm computes the L level wavelet transform for demosaiced color planes R, G and B. The algorithm estimates the corrected color value at each pixel location for the colors not associated with the pixel location. This process is repeated for each of the colors, etc. The algorithm carries out an inverse wavelet transform for each of the color planes not to alter the pixel values of the color associated with each pixel location. The result of the inverse wavelet transform of each color plane is combined with the inverse wavelet transform of each of the estimated color values for the color plane to produce correlated R, G and B planes. The corrected R, G and B color planes may be compressed using a wavelet-based image compression method. |
