PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a character/image to be drawn at a high sped with a simple circuit constitution by alleviating a load of an equipment controller. SOLUTION: A display controller 52 controls a display of a display unit 14 of the audio/visual equipment capable of displaying a digital screen having one or both of the character/image, a television image, and an on-screen display method. The controller 52 has at least a buffer 92 capable of writing/reading digital screen data by an equipment controller 44 for forming the screen data, and a video memory control means 94 for writing the digital screen data written in the buffer 92 in a video memory 54 as display screen data, reading the display screen data from the memory 54 based on a command from the controller 44, and writing the data in the buffer 92.
