Fibrous substrates for sausage etc. casings - having high burst strength due to cellulose carbamate and alkaline curing resin bonding agents

Bonded porous fibrous substrates are suitable for use in the mfr. of casings for food prods. etc. They comprise fibrous base webs contg. up to 10 wt.% bonding agent which comprises cellulose carbamate and an alkaline curing resin at a wt. ratio greater than 1:1. The substrates have porosity at least 300 litres per min. (TAPPI T251-pm-75) and caustic tensile strength over 300 g. per 25 mm., and form reinforced casing films of excellent burst strength.
