PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily remove a recording medium jammed between a fixing roller and an endless fixing belt laid over a plurality of supporting rollers in a tensioned state and to restrain the deformation of the fixing roller and the fixing belt or the like in a fixing device where a toner image is fixed on the recording medium between the fixing belt and the fixing roller. SOLUTION: In this fixing device, the endless fixing belt 10 is laid over a plurality of supporting rollers 11 and 12 in a state where it is tensioned by an energizing means, and the fixing roller 13 is made to press-contact with at least one supporting roller through the fixing belt, then the toner image formed on the recording medium is pressured between the fixing belt and the fixing roller so as to be fixed on the recording medium. The fixing device is provided with a fluctuating means for fluctuating space between the fixing roller and the supporting roller and a tension softening means for softening the tension of the fixing belt by the energizing means.
