PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform control to prevent temperature rise at the end by using a temperature detecting means in a fixing device where a non-contact type temperature detecting means is arranged to be opposed to the paper passing area of a thermal fixing member so that an image may not be soiled by the damage of the thermal fixing member due to the contact with the temperature detecting means. SOLUTION: This fixing device is provided with the thermal fixing member 1, a pressure fixing member 3, a 1st heater 2a strongly heating a common paper passing part out of the outer surface of the thermal fixing member, the non-contact temperature detecting means 11 detecting the temperature of the common paper passing part in a non-contact state, a 2nd heater 2b strongly heating the paper passing part except the common paper passing part, a contact temperature detecting means 12 detecting the temperature of the outer surface of the thermal fixing member on the outside from the width of maximum transfer paper size in a contact state, and a control part 20 controlling the temperature of the respective heaters by controlling the energizing of the heaters based on the detected temperature from the respective detecting means. The control part controls the energizing of the 1st and the 2nd heaters based on the detected temperature by the non-contact temperature detecting means, while it stops the energizing of the 2nd heater when the detected temperature by the contact temperature detecting means is equal to or above target temperature.
