PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium wherein electromagnetic conversion characteristics are good and high recording density characteristics are remarkably improved. SOLUTION: In the magnetic recording medium including a substantially nonmagnetic lower layer and a magnetic layer containing hexagonal ferrite powders in a binder, which are provided on a support in this order, the coercive force Hc of the magnetic recording medium is 2000 to 4000 Oe (160 to 320 kA/m), the SFD/SQ of the magnetic recording medium is 0.40 to 1.5, and the average plate thickness of the hexagonal ferrite powders is 15 to 35 nm. |
