PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent surface acoustic wave device with versatility that has an electrode structure which suppresses interdigital electrodes formed on the surface of a piezoelectric substrate from being destroyed due to storage of electric charges on the piezoelectric substrate and its discharge in the manufacture processes, is applicable to interdigital electrodes of an optional shape and gives no adverse effect on the characteristics of surface acoustic wave devices themselves. SOLUTION: The surface acoustic wave device is provided with stimulation electrodes 13 comprising a plurality of electrode fingers interdigitally placed side by side on a piezoelectric substrate 10 with pyroelectricity, electrode pads 11, 12 connected to the stimulation electrodes 13, and discharge electrodes 14 which is placed around the electrode pads 11, 12 to introduce discharge from the electrode pads 11, 12.
