PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display device and a driving method of the device in which wide dynamic range video display is provided while displaying natural video represented by HD and other TV systems, sense of incongruity caused by wiring voltage drop while displaying flat video having high average luminance represented by a computer output is reduced and a uniform and clear display is provided regardless of the kinds of video signals. SOLUTION: In a horizontal driving means 8 which applies modulation signals to column wirings Dx1 to Dx1920 of a display panel 1, pulse widths and pulse locations of the modulation signals are determined based on the video signals to be displayed so that the applied intervals of the modulation signals are spread over for every column wiring. Moreover, the pulse amplitudes related to the modulation signals are modulated based on the control signals from a system control means 10.
