PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clamp an optical disk surely in a optical disk unit having a slot-in mechanism. SOLUTION: An optical disk 100 is carried to a recording/playback position while being held by the carrier part, and is then clamped in a spindle. The semicirclular part of the optical disk 100 is held between the upper tray and lower tray of the carrier part. In this state, the carrier part descends and is inserted into the clamper 51 of the spindle. Since only the semicirclular part of the disk is held, the optical disk 100 is inserted aslant to the clamper 51 of the spindle and engages with a pawl or a ball clamp prepared at the front end of the clamper 51 of the spindle.
