PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear motor drive type elevator system in which the height of a building can be effectively utilized, and in which safety is secured in case of inspection. SOLUTION: A car 1 is suspended by a rope at a lower part on the facing surface side to a balance weight 2, and sash pulleys 25 and 26 are disposed at an upper part of an elevator shaft on the side of the balance weight 2 to a projection surface of the car 1 to set top gap size of the car 1 small.
