PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hair dye composition which is stable for a long period of time, especially in an acidic state for a long period of time, can uniformly treat the hair in application to the hair without dripping, has excellent sense of use and excellent dyeability. SOLUTION: This hair dye composition is characterized by comprising a low acetylated xanthan gum. The hair dye composition is characterized by comprising a low acetylated xanthan gum from which at least a part of an acetyl group at the 6-position of a D-mannose unit existing between a D-glucose unit especially constituting a xanthan gum and a glucuronic acid unit is removed.
