The packaging machine, to wrap packets (11) within a film, has a conveyor to carry them through it. The packets are covered by a tubular film at a wrapping station, which covers their upper and lower sides and their leading and trailing lateral sides. At least one welding station (22) is after the wrapping stage, in the direction of packet travel, and to one side of the conveyor to give a preferably continuous welding action on the projecting wrapping film edge (23) through a film welding unit (24), as the wrapped packets move past it.
